1955 Packard Caribbean

1955 Packard Caribbean

Other Diecast
Most Valuable Packard of Its Time The Caribbean 'sports car' was inspired by the Packard Pan American show car which Packard displayed at the 1952 New York Auto Show. The Caribbean was based on Packard's regular convertible, and thus shared the same 3,099 mm (122 in) wheel base and most of its sheet metal. There were, however, some significant styling and luxury items. Packard stylist Dick Teague did a masterful job with a major face-lift for the Caribbean. A wraparound windshield, dummy scoops on the hood and the leading edges of the rear fenders, a heavy egg crate grille, and twin rear fender antennas. He topped the Caribbean off with a garish three-tone paint job. The wire-spoke wheels were nicely accented by full wheel cutouts with chrome surrounds. A hood scoop added front end character, while a continental spare tire finished off the rear. Under the jukebox exterior there was finally a new overhead valve, 5.8 litre, 275 horsepower V-8.

1961 Desoto Adventurer

1961 Desoto Adventurer

Other Diecast
The Last Gasp After years of rumored closure, in November 1960, Chrysler Corporation announced that it would cease production of the DeSoto. DeSoto reached its peak years in 1955, selling 115,485 cars divided into two series, Firedome and Fireflite. These two lines included seven models. 1958 was not a kind year to DeSoto. Sales fell to 49,445 and rumors began to circulate about DeSoto coming to an end. 1959 found DeSoto still battling the rumor mills. Production amounted to 45,724 vehicles. Even with so few sales the DeSoto line offered a wide range of models from wagons to convertibles. But DeSoto found itself in the same boat as many other medium-priced cars, sales were being squeezed by newer low- priced cars. 1960 saw an all new DeSoto featuring Unibody construction, which was now shared by all Chrysler Corporation vehicles except Imperial. 1960 saw DeSoto come out with a revised model lineup. It now consisted of the Firedome, Fireflite, and Adventurer. The only body styles now offered were sedans and hardtops. Sales slid to only 26,081 cars. The rumors picked up speed. The 1961 models were face-lifted '60 models and shared many styling cues with the Chrysler (Newport and Windsor) with which they shared body shells and many other parts. The overall styling featured a streamlined look of motion leading to attractive fins. The front end design featured canted headlights (like the '61 Chrysler) framing a horizontal grille topped by a distinctive air scoop. The sides are clean with one molding running nearly the entire length of the car. Sculptured fins begin at the vent window and sweep back to balance the curving rear deck. The rear deck features five ribs carrying over a theme begun on the 1957 Adventurer. A new straight windshield slanted up to the roof, eliminating distortion caused by the curved upper edge design on previous models. A new roof design on the four-door models featured twin speed lines from front to rear. Of the 2 million DeSotos made in its 32 year history, over half were after WWII. The last great year was 1955 when Virgil Exners “Forward Look” increased sales by 85%. By 1960, however, the hand-writing was on the wall as compact cars were the popular trend. The 1961 DeSoto, of which only 3034 were made, was basically a Chrysler Windsor made at a Chrysler plant. It still had the powerful 265hp. V-8 under the hood and big tail fins, but the front grille looked patched together. Our 1:18 scale precision die cast replica is a perfect rendition of the last of the DeSotos, just as they looked rolling off Chryslers production line for the last time. Features • Opening Hood • Opening Doors • Working Steering System • Powerful 361 Cubic Inch V-8 is Wired and Plumbed • Interior Features Dashboard Mounted Rear View Mirror and Folding Front Seats • Precision Die-Cast Replica • 11.5 Inches Long • 1:18 Scale

1963 Ford Falcon Futura Convertable

1963 Ford Falcon Futura Convertable

Ford
In January 1963 the Ford Motor Company introduced the Falcon Hardtop model. Being that they were only made after January they were designated 1/2 year models. Thus the 1963 1/2 Falcon Futura Hardtop was born. The slanted windshield and rear window gave this model a crisp new look. The term Hardtop came from the 50's cars called Hardtop Convertibles which meant that there was no post between the front and rear windows and no frame around the door windows.

1963 Studebaker Avanti

1963 Studebaker Avanti

Other Diecast
Many books have been written about Studebakers demise, most blaming poor management decisions. One factor that certainly did not negatively affect Studebaker was their designs. In fact the Robert Bourke (of the famous Raymond Loewy Studio) designs for 1953 have been called the best of the decade. Sales of these “Loewy Coupes”, as they came to be known, shocked the Studebaker executives who thought their sedans would be the big sellers. Coupes outsold sedans 4-to-1 in 1953, which unfortunately caused many production and delivery delays. SKU: SC06 Blue

1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

Other Diecast
1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe Lighting Fast But More Accessible Ford loved the prestige of the Shelby Mustang but in 1967 decided they needed to make some money off this brand, which meant more sales. With the Mustang Fastback as a basis, Carroll Shelby used a fiberglass nose, louvered hood and side scoops to retain the sports car look. But at Ford's insistence he added air conditioning and power steering and brakes to make the car more accessible to the public. Under the hood, however, the GT-500 was now powered by a 428 cubic inch V-8 rated at 355hp. but actually producing more than 400. Top speed was 130mph. Sales increased over 25% with over 3200 Shelby Mustangs produced. Sku: RD41 blue
